The Restaurants with the Best Views in Santo Domingo
· Equipo QueHacerRD
The Caribbean from the Malecón, the Alcázar de Colón lit up at night and the city from a rooftop: five Santo Domingo tables where the view is on the menu.

Santo Domingo has three views no other city in the country can offer together: the Caribbean Sea right beside the avenue, a five-century-old colonial city, and a modern downtown that fills with lights at night. The best part is that you can enjoy all three sitting down, with a plate in front of you.
We picked five places where the scenery is part of the experience: two facing the sea, one on the most photographed square in the Colonial City, and two rooftops. The advice is the usual: book ahead, ask for an outdoor table and arrive before sunset. On the Malecón, the breeze does the rest.
Adrian Tropical, Malecón

The classic. The Malecón branch, at number 1 Avenida George Washington, sits literally over the water: the building looks like a cruise ship and its terraces face the Caribbean with nothing in between. It is the most reviewed restaurant in Santo Domingo, and for good reason: mofongo, sancocho, generous portions and fresh fruit batidos, with the sea breeze in the background. On weekend evenings it fills up with families, so arrive early.
Pat'e Palo European Brasserie

Here the view is not the sea but history. Its terrace holds one of the best spots on Plaza de España, with the Alcázar de Colón right across, and at night, with the palace lit up, it is one of the prettiest postcards in the city. European cooking, a good wine list and the perfect way to end a walk through the Colonial City.
Piso 84 Tapas Rooftop Bar

A rooftop right on Avenida Rómulo Betancourt to see the modern city from above. The format is sharing tapas and cocktails, with live music some nights and screens when there is a game on. It works just as well for after-office drinks as for kicking off a Saturday night.
Lungomare Bar & Lounge

Its name means seafront promenade and it delivers: a modern terrace on the Malecón, next to the Sheraton hotel, with an open view of the sea. The menu mixes Italian cooking, seafood and grilled meats, and the schedule is one of the busiest in the area, with orchestras, karaoke and concerts through the week. It has private rooms, so it works for celebrations too.
Lakasa Roof Restaurant & Bar

The quiet escape on the list. A rooftop with a relaxed, elegant feel, made for talking without shouting while the city moves below. A good choice for an unhurried weeknight dinner.
Before you go
- Book ahead and ask for the terrace; tables with a view go first.
- On the Malecón, arrive half an hour before sunset: the light over the sea changes fast.
- In the Colonial City, take a ride-hailing app: parking is the hard part.
