Juan Dolio is the closest stretch of sea to the capital: less than an hour from Santo Domingo, the highway hugs the coast and a beach town appears, with miles of sand, apartment towers and a row of restaurants facing the Caribbean. Nobody comes here to eat in a hurry.

Nico's Beach Lounge

Seafood by the sea on Calle Principal, in the former Octopus Bay spot. A terrace, a laid-back vibe, a menu for everyone and dogs allowed. A good stop for a lunch with no clock after the beach.
